Donaueschingen

the source and more

Donaueschingen lies at the source of the River Danube and forms a vibrant link between tradition and progress.  A former princedom, the town offers active people of today not only a rich cultural heritage but also a modern place to live in. Optimal overnight accommodation in all price categories is available in both comfortable guesthouses and luxury hotels. Donaueschingen is already looking forward to your visit!  Modern conference rooms, pleasant cafés and exquisite restaurants are also most inviting.

Places to see:

Numerous cultural attractions and the whole of the tourist region in the south of the Black Forest will turn your holiday into something really special: the Princely Fürstenberg Palace, the renowned Princely Fürstenberg Collections, the Museum Biedermann with modern art, the church of St. John – built in Bohemian Baroque, the centre of the town with elements of Art Nouveau and the town hall with the Musicians' Fountain.

Things to do:

Visit the cultural treasures such as the Princely Fürstenberg Collections of contemporary art and natural history or discover the Art Nouveau elements in the town. Donaueschingen offers active holidaymakers and people who enjoy sports a great variety of opportunities to spend their holidays and leisure time 'on the move'.  The extensive, well-signposted bike trail network is ideal for round trips by bike. The source of the Danube can be seen in the palace park near the Princely Fürstenberg Palace. From here the Danube begins its 2,850 kilometre-long journey to the Black Sea. Enjoy the wonderful countryside, too, on a hike where hiking sticks are optional.  Take part in international events like the S. D. Fürst Joachim zu Fürstenberg Gedächtnisturnier Donaueschingen horse show (in September), the Donaueschingen Music Days (3rd weekend in October) or the Jazz Night (in August).
