Vohburg on the Danube

Vohburg lies on the south bank of the Danube.The small town can look back on a rich history, which even today the castle hill with its castle gate and wall, the castle buildings and St. Peter's church bear witness to, as does the picturesque old part of the town, with several designated historical monuments, the Ulrich Steinberger Square in the middle, the town hall (formerly church of St. Andrew) and three town gates. The name Vohburg (originally Voheburch, Voharpurg, Voheburg) comes from 'Fuchsburg' (fox castle), which is why the town has a fox in its coat of arms. The importance of the town was lost after the final destruction of the castle in 1641. However in the year 1952, Vohburg was once again granted the privileges of a town, and following the local government reform Vohburg was officially recognised as a small town in the administrative sense of having between 5,000 and 20,000 inhabitants.
