Immendingen

Holiday location at the Danube sink, where the river disappears from the Baar into the Jurassic highland of the Swabian Alb. Former imperial knightly market town situated between extensive mixed forests, surrounded by about 120 kms of signposted hiking trails.

Places to see:

Danube sink - the Danube drains away on about 155 days a year and during that time it is possible to hike along the river bed towards Tuttlingen without getting wet feet!  Fossils found at Höwenegg ( the Höwenegg crater came into being through the mining of basalt). This is where the three-toed, prehistoric horse Hipparion was found and where a replica of the skeleton can still be seen in the museum of local history. The Upper Castle, today the town hall, is the landmark of the municipality of Immendingen.  Former residence of  Baron von Reischach and Baron von Schreckenstein. Catholic parish church of St. Peter and Paul, museum of local history (visits by prior arrangement), bird and tree nature trail on the way to the barbecue area 'Grillplatz Bumbis', charcoal stack, reconstructed show charcoal stack, Immendingen Flexur (flexur is an s-shaped bend in rock formation). In the Ameisen valley northeast of  Immendingen, the limestone cliff face of  the white Jurassic rock inclines 80° to the east.  The roofed wooden bridge made by carpenters is a landmark of historical value.

Things to do:

Fishing, cycling, connection to the Danube Bike Trail, circular bike routes, hiking, 12 new signposted circular hiking trails, luggage-free hiking in the Upper Danube national park, inline skating area, inline hockey field, various barbecue places in Immendingen and the town districts; cultural events:  concerts given by the various music and choral associations, good connection to local public transport with the ring train and German Rail.

Camping site:

Camping site for cyclists: situated directly on the Danube Bike Trail. Cyclists can spend a night here free of charge.  The camping site is equipped with a refuge, a barbecue area and toilets (there are no shower facilities).  Anyone interested can take advantage of the short stay to have a look at the natural phenomenon of the Danube sink.  The footpath to the point where the Danube sinks begins directly at the cyclists' camping site.
