Allmendingen

Allmendingen

Allmendingen is a vivid community of about 4,600 inhabitants. It’s situated at the edge of the Swabian Alb some 25 kilometres west of Ulm and about 5 kilometres north of Ehingen.

Allmendingen is family-friendly as well as industry-oriented. We make efforts in order to provide good conditions for living, housing and employment.

The municipality consists of several parts:
There’s the main part Allmendingen and Hausen, then the so-called “Lutherische Berge” with Ennahofen, Grötzingen and Weilersteußlingen/Ermelau and also “Hochsträß” with Niederhofen, Pfraunstetten and Schwörzkirch.
Allmendingen is located in the pre-historic valley of the Danube, an area of great scenic beauty with rivers, lakes, natural reserves, close to the plains of “Oberschwaben” and the hilly landscape of the Swabian Alb. Various bike paths and hiking tracks invite to relax in this local recreational area.

The nature reserve “Schmiechener See” is widely-known for its unique avifauna and flora.

Allmendingen being a community of open-minded people has been cultivating a twinning arrangement with the French town of Querqueville in Normandy since 1981. It also maintains friendly connections with the Swiss town of Allmendingen near Bern.

Sightseeing:

Interesting sights in Allmendingen are the parish church of the Assumption of Mary dating back to the 15th century, the oldest and newly restored church “St. Laurentius” in a part of Allmendingen which is called “Kleindorf” and in Weilersteußlingen the parish church “St. Pankraz”.

Things to experience:

During the summer you can spend recreative days in the midst of nature in our heated open-air swimming pool “Waldfreibad”. It’s idyllically situated only a few yards from the woods. Swimming there is a great pleasure in these natural and healthy surroundings.
For refreshment there’s the restaurant “Waldfreibadgaststätte” not far from the pool. Visiting the minigolf course above the “Waldfreibad” can be a welcome change with a great deal of fun.

One of the highlights in Allmendingen is the “FiZ”, an annual event in the centre of Allmendingen that usually takes place in the end of July. Visitors can enjoy various culinary delights supplied by local clubs and associations. The “FiZ” attracts people from near and far to meet friends and to party in the square in front of the town hall for two days. Strolling along the flea market you can discover both junk and all sorts of useful things. Of course there are attractions for children too. Entertainment programmes are organized and arranged by lots of local clubs and associations.
