Sigmaringendorf

The old Alemanni settlement lies at the confluence of the rivers Lauchert and Danube and is the point at which today's much bigger princely town of the House of Hohenzollern was founded in the 11th century. From the 17th century the place was a centre for smelting and working bean ore from the Swabian Alb (especially from the Lauchert valley). The narrow, craggy Danube valley gradually opens up near Sigmaringen into the expanse of Upper Swabia.

Places to see:

Parish church of St. Peter and Paul, the small chapel 'Bruckkapelle' adjacent to the Danube Bike Trail, the remains of Celtic and Alemanni settlements

Things to do:

Open-air theatre 'Waldbühne' (season: June-September), street festival (in September)
