Swabian Alb

THE STATE OF THE LION-MAN

The “Young Danube” is a mighty river with an impressive history starting its long journey in the south-west of the Swabian Alb. Throughout thousands of years, the Danube dug itself a deep riverbed. The emperors, kings and princes meanwhile moved in the opposite direction, by building their fortresses and castles high on the hills of the Swabian Alb. The place, where also the oldest human artworks were found. Unique treasures from the Ice Age, like the famous “Lion-Man” or the “Venus of Hohle Fels”. Not only the glacial men but also the Celts, Romans and Alemanni colonized the Swabian Alb and left their traces. The Lichtenstein castle has the fitting nickname “Fairy-tale castle” of Württemberg. It was built based on the romantic model of a Wilhelm Hauff novel, the most famous German storyteller. Come and discover the “State of the Lion-Man”!
