Messkirch

EXPERIENCE THE MIDDLE AGES AT FIRST HAND

The silhouette of Messkirch is shaped by the Renaissance, caste owned by the counts of Zimmern and the baroque church St. Martin. The Messkirch castle originates from the 16th/17th century and serves today as a location for events, conferences, weddings, concerts and more. Furthermore, it accommodates three museums: The “Martin-Heidegger” museum, the art gallery of the district Sigmaringen and the vintage car museum. Especially worth seeing is the baroque parish church St. Martin with the “Dreikönigsbild” (picture of the Epiphany) in the Nepomuk chapel. The “Campus Galli”, the Carolingian cloistral city of Messkirch, is a unique project where people build a monastery by using tools and materials from the Early Middle Ages. The project is based on a 1200-year-old “St. Gallen monastery plan”, drawn by monks from the “Reichenau” island and aims to make the times of Charlemagne perceptible.
