Neuburg
RENNAISSANCE AT THE DANUBE
The Danube and the historical old town shape Neuburg/Donau more than anything else. The city scenically lies in the Danube valley at the border of the Franconian Alb in the north, as well as the “Donaumoos” and “Hügelland” in the south. Even from a distance the magnificent castle facade with the two striking rotunda towers can be seen. The symbol of the renaissance city, former residence of the “Young Palatinate” is nowadays the state gallery of Flemish baroque paintings. A “must-see” is the castle chapel, the first evangelic church building of the “Bocksberger Frescos”. The city is surrounded by numerous possibilities for hiking and biking tours to the hunting lodge “Grünau” or to the pilgrimage church in “Bergen”.
